A Mixed Cation Nickel Diphosphate with a Layered Intergrowth Structure: Synthesis, Structural and Magnetic Characterization of Na(NH4)[Ni3(P2O7)2(H2O)2].
— The title compound is synthesized hydrothermally from mixtures of NiCl2·6H2O,
NaCl, NH4H2PO4, and H2O in the molar ratio 1:1:3:667 (autoclave, 447 K, 5 d, 75%
yield). Na(NH4)[Ni3(P 2O7)2(H2O)2] crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c
with Z = 4 (single crystal XRD). The structure consists of cis- and trans-edge sharing
NiO6 octahedral chains linked via P2O7 units to [Ni3P4O16]2- layers. The ammonium and
Na+ cations are alternately located in the interlayer spaces. The magnetic susceptibility
obeys the Curie—Weiss law with µeff = 3.32 µB, showing the Ni2+ character and weak
