Palladium(II)-Substituted Tungstosilicate
[Cs2K(H2O)7Pd2WO(H2O)(A-α-SiW9O34 )2]9-. — Title compound (V) crystallizes in
the monoclinic space group P21/n with Z = 4 (single crystal XRD) and represents the
first structurally characterized palladium(II)-substituted tungstosilicate. The title polyanion consists of two (A-α-SiW9O34) Keggin moieties linked via a {WO(H2O)} 4+ group
and two equivalent, square-planar Pd2+ ions leading to a sandwich-type structure with
C2v symmetry. The central belt of the polyanion contains also one K+ and two Cs+ ions.
A cyclic voltammetry study of the polyanion in a pH 5 medium shows a Pd0 deposition
process on the glassy carbon electrode surface. The film thickness increases with number of potential cycles or duration of potentiostatic electrolysis. As shown by hydrogen
sorption/desorption measurements, the quality of the resulting Pd0 films is better than
that of films deposited directly from Pd2+ solutions. — (BI, L.-H.; KORTZ*, U.;
