Ion-Exchange Properties of Microporous Tungstates. — The hexagonal tungsten
bronze Na0.2WO3·zH2O is prepared hydrothermally from aqueous solutions of Na2WO4
09- 241 acidified
with HCl (Parr acid digestion bomb, 155 °C, pH 1.65—1.75, 30—48 h). The
samples display promising distribution coefficients for both Cs+ and Sr2+ cations in
acidic radioactive waste simulants. The selectivity for Cs+ and Sr2+ increases significantly on isomorphous substitution of Mo for W and is optimal for
Na0.2Mo 0.02W0.97O3·zH 2O. The materials can be used for the selective extraction of
137
Cs and 90 Sr from highly acidic solutions where conventional inorganic ion-exchangers are not stable. Application to the decontamination of certain acidic radioactive
