Phase Diagram Studies of the Ti—Bi—Zn System. — The phase equilibria in the
title system are characterized at 500, 615, and 900 °C by DSC, and optical and scanning
electron microscopy. The simultaneous existence of two stable ternary compounds, the
stoichiometric TiBiZn and nonstoichiometric ≈Ti4Bi 3Zn is detected. Unidentified crystals having an approximate composition TiBi2Zn are observed and evidence for the
existence of a binary compound with approximate formula TixBi y (x ≈ y) is given. —
