Preparation of Polystyrene-Bound Dichlorotitanium Dialkoxide and Its Applicaas a Polymer-Supported Lewis Acid Catalyst in Organic Syntheses. — The

title catalyst is prepared by addition of polystyrene-bound α-glycol (crosslinked with
1% divinylbenzene) to dichlorotitanium diisopropoxide in nearly quantitative yield.
The Lewis acid catalyst hardly decomposes, even in the presence of air moisture, and
is utilized in several fundamental carbon—carbon bond-forming reactions affording
the desired products in fair yields. The polymer catalyst can be recovered by simple
filtration and its reuse is accompanied with only a slight loss of activity. —
