A Surprisingly Large Thermal Hysteresis Loop in a Reversible Phase Transition
RbxMn[Fe(CN)6](x+2)/3·zH2O. — The title compounds exhibit a temperature-induced
14- 013 of
phase transition with surprisingly large thermal hysteresis loops of 86 K (x = 0.94),
94 K (x = 0.85), and 116 K (x = 0.73). As revealed by powder XRD all high-temperature phases are face-centered cubic (space group F43m). The low-temperature phases
of samples with x = 0.94 and x = 0.85 are tetragonal (space group I4m2) and those with
x = 0.73 are cubic (space group F43m). Materials that exhibit a thermal phase transition
with a thermal hysteresis loop are useful for applications in memory devices. —
