Reduced Lanthanum Halides with Ge as Interstitials: La2I2Ge, La 2I2Ge2,
La3Cl 2Ge 3, La3Br2Ge3, La3I3Ge, La6I5Ge 3 and La7+x I12 Ge. — The title compounds
are synthesized in 70—90% yield by reaction of stoichiometric mixtures of
La, LaX3 (X: Cl, Br and I) and Ge under argon at 860—1200 °C. The structures of
La2I2Ge (trigonal, space group P3m1, Z = 1), La2I2Ge2 (trigonal, P3m1, Z = 2),
La3Cl2Ge3 (monoclinic, C2/m, Z = 4), La 3Br 2Ge3 (monoclinic, C2/m, Z = 4), La3I3Ge
(cubic, I4132, Z = 8), La6I5Ge 3 (monoclinic, C2/m, Z = 2) and La7.73 I12 Ge (trigonal, R3,
Z = 3) are determined by single crystal XRD. The compounds are characterized by
