The Magnetism of Sm3Ag4Sn4 and Gd 3Ag4Sn4. — As revealed by powder XRD,
title compounds crystallize in the orthorhombic space group Immm
16- 017 both
(oI22-Gd6Cu8Ge8-type structure). The magnetic properties of the compounds are characterized by dc magnetization and ac susceptibility measurements. Both phases display
antiferromagnetic ordering at low temperatures. Whereas only one antiferromagnetic
transition is observed for Sm3Ag4Sn4, there are two different transitions in Gd3Ag 4Sn 4.
