Synthesis, Thermochemical Properties and Crystal Structure of Bi7Cl 10. — Black
single crystals of the title compound are obtained by slow cooling of a stoichiometric
melt of Bi and BiCl3 from 500 °C to room temperature. Bi7Cl 10 crystallizes in the tetragonal space group I41/acd with Z = 64. The structure contains tri-capped trigonal B i59 +
prisms which are embedded in a chloro-bismuthate(III) framework ∞3[Bi5 C l52 -0]. Bi7Cl10
decomposes peritectoidally into Bi6Cl7 and BiCl3 at 190 °C. The phase diagram and
phase barogram of the Bi—Cl system are determined and standard enthalpy and entropy values are given for Bi6Cl7 and Bi7Cl10 . — (HAMPEL, S.; SCHMIDT, P.; RUCK*,
