A Study of the Magnetic Structure of LaMn2O5 from Neutron Powder Diffraction
— The title compound is characterized by powder neutron diffraction and by
17- 017 Data.
magnetic susceptibility and magnetization measurements. LaMn2O5 crystallizes in the
orthorhombic space group Pbam. The structure contains infinite chains of edge-sharing
MnIVO6 octahedra, interconnected by MnIIIO5 pyramids and LaO8 units. The compound
exhibits antiferromagnetic order below TN ≅ 31 K. A spin-glass-type behavior, which
probably involves the short-range order in the Mn3+ sublattice, is observed above TN.
