Structural and Magnetic Properties of Mn2GeSe 4. — The title compound crystallizin the olivine-type structure (orthorhombic, space group Pnma, Z = 4; single crystal
18- 011 es
XRD). The crystal structure is based on a hexagonal close packing of Se2- with Mn2+
ions in octahedral and Ge4+ ions in tetrahedral coordination. Between 350 and 150 K,
Mn2GeSe4 exhibits Curie—Weiss behavior with an effective moment of µeff = 5.90 µB
indicative for Mn2+ ions with a 3d5 configuration (S = 5/2) and a paramagnetic Curie
temperature of -240 K indicating predominant antiferromagnetic coupling between the
Mn2+ ions. At 66 K, the onset of long-range magnetic ordering is observed. —
