Highly Porous Uranyl Selenate Nanotubules. — Yellow transparent crystals of
(Bu-NH3)14[(UO2)10 (SeO4)17(H2O)] are synthesized by slow evaporation of aqueous solutions of butylamine, H2SeO4, and UO2(NO3)2 (6—7 d, 90% yield). As revealed by single crystal XRD, the compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group I2mm
with Z = 4. The structure consists of nanometer-scale tubular [(UO2)10(SeO4)17 (H2O)] 14units. The nanotubes consist of UO7 pentagonal bipyramids and SeO4 tetrahedra sharing common O atoms. One possible application of this material is the utilization of depleted U through its incorporation into nanomaterials for applications in nanotechnology. — (KRIVOVICHEV*, S.
