Coprecipitation of Nickel—Copper—Aluminum Takovite as Catalyst Precursors
for Simultaneous Production of Carbon Nanofibers and Hydrogen. —
Cu—Al-doped Ni hydrotalcite-like catalysts for the simultaneous production of carbon
nanofibers and H2 from CH4 are prepared by coprecipitation from a Cu—Ni—Al nitrate
solution at alkaline pH. The samples are characterized by chemical analysis, TGA, and
XRD. The brucite-like layers consist of Ni, Cu, and Al ions of composition
[CuyNi x-yAl1-x (OH)2](1-x)+, while the interlayers consist of C O23 - and water. Catalytic
conversion tests at 670 °C reveal a significantly enhanced catalytic reactivity of
2 mol% Cu-doped catalysts as compared to a pristine Ni catalyst. Production of carbon
