Synthesis and Crystal Structure of Potassium Osmate(VIII), K2OsO5. — The title
compound is prepared by reaction of Os powder with KO2 under elevated oxygen pressures (380—420 MPa, 425—475 °C). K2OsO5 crystallizes in the hexagonal space
group P6 with Z = 6 (single crystal XRD). Osmium is coordinated by five oxygen
atoms forming a trigonal bipyramid. These polyhedra are arranged in a hexagonal close
packing, where in each second layer the bipyramids are present in two possible orientations. Magnetic measurements show diamagnetic behavior confirming the presence
