Direct Solution Synthesis of Intermetallic AuCu and AuCu3 Nanocrystals and
Nanowire Networks. — AuCu nanocrystals are synthesized from tetraethylene glycol
19- 238 solutions
containing Cu(OAc)2, HAuCl4, poly(vinylpyrrolidone), and NaBH4 (reflux,
15 min). In a similar way, AuCu3 nanocrystals are prepared but starting with a higher
Cu(OAc)2 content (reflux, 30—60 min). AuCu nanowire networks are obtained by using other high boiling solvents (ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol,
and glycerol) instead of tetraethylene glycol. The samples are characterized by powder
XRD, TEM, and visible absorption spectroscopy. The realization of large quantities of
intermetallic nanocrystals using a one-step high-yield solution route has important implications for both fundamental scientific studies and future technological applications.
