Sonochemical Synthesis, Optical Properties, and Electrical Properties of Core/
ZnO Nanorod/CdS Nanoparticle Composites. — The title nano-compos19- 239 Shell-Typ
ites are prepared by ultrasonic irradiation of an aqueous mixture of ZnO nanorods,
CdCl2, and thiourea (20 °C, 2 h). The samples are characterized by powder XRD and
TEM. The room temperature photoluminescence spectrum of the ZnO/CdS composites
exhibits an UV emission peak at 367 nm and a green emission around 523 nm. The
composites exhibit an enhanced conductance compared with that of uncoated ZnO
nanorods, and show an improved EtOH-sensing performance with high sensitivity. The
preparation method can be exploited to other material systems, which offer promising
