K3[Pt2(SO4)4H(HSO4)2]: A Platinum(III) Sulfate with [Pt2(SO4)4] Cores Linked by
[H(HSO4)2]- Units. — Red single crystals of the title compound are obtained from the
reaction of K2[Pt2(SO4)4(H2O)2] with conc. H2SO4 (400 °C, evacuated glass tube, 72 h).
K3[Pt2(SO4)4H(HSO4)2] crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c, Z = 4. In the
crystal structure, [H(HSO4)2]- units formed by the linkage of two hydrogensulfate ions
via a hydrogen atom connect [Pt2(SO4)4] cores to infinite chains. The sulfate groups act
as chelating ligands for the Pt2 dumbbell while the two hydrogensulfate groups are
monodentate and occupy the terminal positions of the P t6+
2 ions. Charge compensation
is achieved by two crystallographically different K+ ions in eightfold coordination of
