Remarkable Substituent Effects on the Oxidizing Ability of Triarylbismuth
Dichlorides in Alcohol Oxidation. — It is found that nature and position of the substituents on the aryl ring in (I) play an important role on the oxidizing ability. The
dichlorides (Ia)—(Ic) containing electron-withdrawing substituents at the para position
and/or a methyl group at ortho position exhibit high oxidizing ability. They are more
