Low-Temperature Synthesis of Nanocrystalline Niobium Nitride via a Benzene-Thermal Route. — Nanocrystalline NbN is synthesized from mixtures of NbCl 5 and
20- 230 NaN
3 in benzene (autoclave, 380 °C, 10 h). The samples are characterized by powder
XRD and TEM. The product has the cubic NbN structure, and the particles have diameters of 10—20 nm. The solvent benzene may be important in the formation of NbN
