High-Pressure Synthesis and Transport Properties of a New Binary Germanide,
SrGe6-δ (δ ≅ 0.5), with a Cagelike Structure. — The new title germanide is synthesized by reaction of Sr and Ge at 1200 °C under a pressure of 5 GPa. SrGe5.5 crystallizes
in the orthorhombic space group Cmcm with Z = 4. The structure is composed of a Ge
covalent network having a cage-like structure and Sr atoms situated in the cages. Each
Ge atom is coordinated by four Ge atoms in a distorted tetrahadral geometry. The compound exhibits metallic behavior down to 2 K, and the positive thermoelectric power
