Syntheses, Structure, and Characterization of Crystal La6Ba4(SiO4)6F2, a Promising Laser Host. — Crystals of the title compound are prepared by a flux growth method from a 20 wt% stoichiometric mixture of BaF2, BaCO3, La 2O3, and SiO2 with
80 wt% 2NaF—BaF2 (1080 °C, 10 h) and a melt growth method from a stoichiometric
mixture of La2O3, BaF2, BaCO 3, and SiO2 with a 2 mol% excess of BaF2 (1850 °C,
10 h). As revealed by single crystal XRD, the title compound crystallizes in the hexagonal space group P63/m with Z = 1. Yb3+ -doped crystals of the title compound show
wide and high emission bands indicating that the crystal is a promising host for generation of ultra-short-pulse and tunable solid state lasers. — (GONG, X.; LIN, Y.;
