Bonding and Oxidation State of a Transition Metal Atom Encapsulated in an
Isolated Octahedral Cluster Cation of Main Group Elements: Synthesis, Crystal
Structure, and Electronic Structure of Pt2In14Ga 3O8F15 Containing Highly Positive
18-Electron Complex [PtIn6]10+ and Low-Valent In+ Ions. — Colorless transparent
single crystals of the title compound are prepared from a stoichiometric mixture of Pt,
In, InF3, and Ga2O3 (Pt crucible, Ar, 600 °C, 14 d). Pt2In14 Ga3O8F15 crystallizes with a
new structure type in the trigonal space group R3m with Z = 6. The characteristic building units of the structure are PtIn6 octahedra, GaF6 octahedra, and GaO4 tetrahedra. The
compound is further characterized by electronic band structure and molecular orbital
