Synthesis, Phase Transition and Thermal Expansion Studies on M2MgWO 6
(M: Ba2+ and Sr 2+) Double Perovskites. — The title compounds are synthesized from
mixtures of MCO3 (M: Ba, Sr), MgO, and WO3 (1175 °C for 20 h and 1200 °C for
12 h). As revealed by powder XRD at ambient temperature, Ba2MgWO6 crystallizes in
the cubic space group Fm3m with Z = 4 and Sr 2MgWO 6 in the tetragonal space group
I4/m with Z = 2. The Ba containing compound expands linearly in the temperature
range 25—1200 °C. At and above 300 °C, a cubic elpasolite-type phase exists for the
