Preparation and Bulk Thermal Expansion Studies in M1-x CexSiO 4 (M: Th, Zr) System, and Stabilization of Tetragonal ThSiO4. — The title compounds are prepared
22- 008 by
solid state reaction of mixtures of ThO2 or ZrO2, CeO2, and SiO2 (1200 and 1300 °C,
36 h). The samples are characterized by powder XRD. About 10 mol% of CeO2 can be
dissolved in the lattice of ThSiO4. The tetragonal modification of ThSiO4, which is
metastable, is stabilized by CeO2 substitution. There is no solubility of CeO2 in the
ZrSiO4 lattice. The thermal expansion behavior of Th0.9Ce 0.1SiO4 can be used to simulate thermal expansion behavior of Th0.9Pu0.1SiO4. — (GROVER, V.; TYAGI*, A. K.;
