Sonochemical Preparation of Hollow Nanospheres and Hollow Nanocrystals. —
Hollow MoS2 and MoO3 nanospheres on silica are synthesized in essentially quantita22- 238 tive
yields by ultrasonic irradiation of a slurry containing Mo(CO)6, S8 (for MoS2), and
nanometer-sized silica spheres in 1,2,3,5-tetramethylbenzene. The samples are characterized by TEM. The hollow MoS2 is an extremely active catalyst for hydrodesulfurization of thiophene. The thermal annealing of MoO3 hollow spheres results in the
unusual formation of hollow crystals with truncated cubic morphology. — (DHAS, N.
