Performance of LiM0.05Co0.95O2 Cathode Materials in Lithium Rechargeable Cells
When Cycled up to 4.5 V. — The title compounds (M: Sn, Cr, Bi, Zr) are synthesized
from stoichiometric mixtures of Co3O4, Li2CO3, and Bi(NO3)2, Cr(NO3)2, Sn(AcO)2, or
ZrO2 (550 °C, 6 h, followed by annealing at 850 °C for 10 h). The samples are characterized by XRD and SEM, and their electrochemical behavior is studied. They show
enhanced stable capacities at high voltages (4.5 V). The material containing Zr is a
promising cathode material for use in lithium rechargeable cells delivering capacities
of about 155 mAh/g at the C/5 rate when cycled in the voltage range between 3.5 and
