The Mo2FeB2- and Mn2AlB2-Type Modifications of Ln 2Ni 2Cd (Ln: La, Pr, Nd, Sm,
Tb, Dy). — The title compounds are prepared from the elements (sealed Nb or Ta
tubes, high-frequency furnace, ≅1520 K, 2 min). Depending on the temperature of the
subsequent annealing procedure, either the tetragonal Mo2FeB 2 type low-temperature
modification (space group P4/mbm, Z = 2; single crystal XRD data) or the orthorhombic Mn2AlB2 type high-temperature modification (space group Cmmm) is formed. In
both modification the Ni and Cd atoms form two-dimensional [Ni2Cd] networks. In the
low-temperature modification the Ni atoms form pairs, while they form zig-zag chains
