Disilver Oxotellurate(VI), Ag2TeO4. — Single crystals of the title compound are prepared by reaction of Ag2O and TeO2 under elevated O2 pressure in the presence of water
as mineralizer (25 MPa O2, 520 °C, autoclave, 45 h). Ag2TeO4 crystallizes in the
monoclinic space group C2/c with Z = 12. The structure contains a novel chain-like
polyanion with tellurium in octahedral coordination. The TeO6 octahedra are connected
via common edges and vertices in a way that the resulting polyanion represents a section of the rutile type structure. Ag2TeO4 exhibits diamagnetic and insulating behavior.
