Cation Distribution and Phase Transformations in LiMn2-yTi yO4 (0.2 ≤ y ≤ 1.5)
Solid Solutions. — The title compounds are synthesized by solid state reaction at
1100 °C and characterized by powder XRD, TG, and EPR spectroscopy. Compounds
in the composition range 0.2 ≤ y ≤ 1.0 crystallize in the space group Fd3m, whereas
those with y > 1.0 crystallize in the space group P4332. The tetrahedral sites of the
structures are occupied by Li+ and Mn2+. The new compound LiMn0.5Ti 1.5O4 crystallizes
in the space group P4332, with all Mn2+ ions being located on tetrahedral sites. The title
spinels are currently receiving significant attention as cathode materials for lithium ion
