Synthesis, Structure, and Properties of Two New Ruddlesden—Popper Phase
of SFMO (Sr2FeMoO6). — Sr 3FeMoO7 (I) and Sr4FeMoO8 (II) are synthe25- 012 Analogues
sized by solid state reactions of stoichiometric mixtures of SrCO3, Fe2O3, and MoO3
(900 °C, 8 h). As revealed by powder XRD, both phases crystallize in the tetragonal
space group I4/mmm. Neutron diffraction data suggest that there is no long-range spin
order in (I), whereas antiferromagnetic order is evidenced for (II). Both materials show
ferromagnetic hysteresis loops at 5 K. Resistivity measurements indicate these compounds to be semiconducting with band gaps of 125 and 46 meV for (II) and (I), respectively. No magnetoresistance effect is observed for either of the materials. —
