A Ladderlike Chain Aluminum Fluoride ([Al2F8]2-)n with Edge-Sharing AlF6
Octahedra. — A new aluminum fluoride, (pyH+)2[Al2F8]2-·Btc (Btc: 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid) is prepared by hydrothermal reaction of Al(NO3)3·9H2O in the presence of Btc in Py/HF (autoclave, pH 1, 200 °C, 3 d). The compound crystallizes in the
triclinic space group P1 with Z = 2 (single crystal XRD). The inorganic framework contains infinite double-chains of corner- and edge-sharing AlF6 octahedra. Half of the terminal F atoms interact via strong hydrogen bonds with the pyridinium moieties. The
resulting mixed pyridine-fluoroaluminate chains are intercalated by the Btc molecules
which are hydrogen-bonded to the remaining free terminal fluoride anions through the
