Hydrothermal Synthesis of Ultralong and Single-Crystalline Cd(OH)2 Nanowires
Using Alkali Salts as Mineralizers. — Ultralong (several hundreds µm) single-crys25- 224 talline
Cd(OH)2 nanowires are grown hydrothermally (250 °C, autoclave, 12 h) from
freshly precipitated Cd(OH)2 in the presence of alkali metal salts as mineralizers. The
morphology and size of the final products strongly depend on the nature of the alkali
salt (KCl, KNO3, K2SO 4, or NaCl, NaNO3, and Na2SO 4). In the absence of an alkali
metal salt, only nanoparticles are produced. The one-dimensional nanostructure growth
method presented offers an excellent tool for the design of other advanced materials
with anisotropic properties. The Cd(OH)2 nanowires may be useful precursors for
one-dimensional nanostructures of cadmium oxide or other functional materials (e.g.,
