Transition Metal Catalyzed Cross-Coupling of Aryl Grignard Reagents with Aryl
via Pd- or Ni-Activation of the C—F Bond: An Efficient Synthesis of Un27- 098 Fluorides
symmetrical Biaryls — Application of Microwave Technology in Ligand and Catalyst Screening. — A series of ligands are tested in the nickel-catalyzed reaction of
fluorotoluene (Ia) with Grignard reagent (II) under microwave conditions. Sterically
hindered phosphite PHO is found to be the best ligand not only under microwave conditions but also under thermal heating. Phosphine PhPCy2 is the most efficient ligand
in palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction of fluoride (Ib) under thermal and microwave
conditions. In addition, the first example of biaryl cross-coupling of unactivated aryl
fluoride (Ib) under phosphine-free palladium catalysis is reported. —
