Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Vibrational Spectra of Ca4P6O19 (Troemelite) —
A catena-Hexaphosphate. — The title compound is prepared by reaction of CaO with
H3PO3 at 1170 K (48 h; 96% yield) and its structure is determined by Rietveld refinement of powder XRD data and single crystal XRD. Ca4P6O19 crystallizes in the triclinic
space group P1 with Z = 2. The structure contains discrete, non-condensed chains of
six corner-sharing PO4 tetrahedra forming a [P6O19]8- anion. The Ca2+ cations are located in the voids of the resulting structure. IR and Raman spectra of troemelite are presented. — (HOEPPE, H. A.; Z. Anorg. Allg. Chem. 631 (2005) 6-7, 1272-1276; Inst.
