Synthesis and Structure of Mixed-Valent Gallium Subhalides: Molecular,
Donor-Stabilized Ga5X7 Species (X: Cl, Br). — Caused by partial disproportionation, metastable GaX solutions (X: Cl, Br) contain small amounts of GaX3 species
which insert into GaX to form Ga2X4 and Ga5X7 entities. Four new Ga5X7 species are
obtained in this way and their structures are determined by single crystal XRD. In three
of these compounds (IIa, IIb, III) a Ga-centered Ga4 tetrahedron is icosahedrically coordinated by 7 halogen atoms and 5 atoms of the donor ligand. In (IIc), one of the Cl
atoms bridges two Ga atoms. (IIa) and (IIb) crystallize in the triclinic space group P1
with Z = 2, (IIc) in the monoclinic space group C2/c with Z = 2, and (III) in the monoclinic space group P21/n with Z = 4. — (DUAN, T.; STOESSER, G.;
