Synthesis and Characterization of the Compounds AIrP (A: La—Nd; Sr). — The
title compounds are synthesized by reaction of the elements at 1100 °C. Single crystals
of LnIrP (Ln: La—Nd) are obtained from mixtures of the elements in a Pb flux (excess
Ln, 1100 °C). The isotypic compounds crystallize with the LaPtSi type structure in the
tetragonal space group I41md (Z = 4). The Ir and P atoms are linked to a three-dimensional network with a trigonal planar environment, whereas the rare-earth metal atoms
are located in the holes with a coordination number of 12. SrIrP is investigated by powder methods and crystallizes with the LaIrSi type structure in the cubic space group
P213 (Z = 4). The Ir and P atoms are coordinated trigonally and form a three-dimensional framework with the Sr atoms in the gaps (coordination number 17). —
