Aluminate-Pentelates(III) AI2 M2Al2O7 and A IIM2Al 2O7 (A I: Rb, Cs; AII: Ba;
M: As, Sb). — The title compounds are synthesized by reaction of Al2O3, M2O3 and
M2O5 (M: As, Sb) with the respective elemental alkaline and alkaline earth elements at
750—830 °C (corundum crucible, argon). The compounds Rb 2Sb 2Al 2O7 and
Cs2Sb2Al2O7 are isotypic with K2Sb2Al2O7 and crystallize in the trigonal space group
P3m1 with Z = 1 (single crystal XRD). The structure contains double-layers of vertex-sharing tetrahedra [A2O7], which are connected to ψ-tetrahedra SbO3 via common
vertices. These double layers are stacked in identical orientation (AA sequence), while
in the barium compound BaSb2Al2O7 (trigonal, space group R32, Z = 3) similar
[Sb2Al 2O7] layers are stacked in an ABC sequence. In Cs2As2Al2O7 (orthorhombic,
space group Imm2, Z = 2) the Al2O7 moieties are similarly connected via AsO3 units,
forming not only layers, but a three-dimensional network. — (EMMERLING, F.;
