Photocatalytic Property and Electronic Structure of Triple-Layered Perovskite
Tantalates, MCa2Ta3O10 (M: Cs, Na, H, and C 6H13NH3). — The title compounds are
characterized by their photocatalytic activity for overall water splitting to evolve H2/O 2
under UV irradiation. The photocatalytic activity is susceptible to the hydration of
interlayer space. The hydrous Na phase exhibits much higher activity compared to the
anhydrous Cs phase and the hydrous H phase in the presence of 0.5 wt% Ni impregnated. As revealed by FLAPW electronic structure calculations for CsCa2Ta3O10 the terminal oxygen atoms, which face the interlayer and contribute mostly to the valence
