Synthesis and Crystal Structure of Ammine Copper(I) Cyanamide,
Cu4(NCN) 2NH3. — The structure of title compound (II) is studied by powder X-ray
and neutron diffraction. (II) crystallizes in the hexagonal space group P63mc with
Z = 2. The structure is characterized by layers of monovalent copper ions which are
connected through two crystallographically independent NCN2- units. While one CuI is
linearly bonded to one NCN2- unit and one NH3 molecule, the other CuI is linearly coordinated to two NCN2- groups. The Cu—N bond lengths are in the range
1.86—1.98 Å. The C—N bond lengths and angles show that both NCN2- groups are
