In situ Powder Synchrotron and Neutron Diffraction Study of Zr2Ni Deuterides.
— The crystal structure of the title compounds is characterized by powder XRD and
neutron diffraction at ambient and elevated temperatures. Zr2NiD4.8 exhibits a triclinic
distortion at room temperature (space group P1). On heating to 473 K, the metal sublattice of the compound returns to tetragonal symmetry (space group I4/mcm) with a
modest lost of deuterium. Four crystallographically different sites in the tetragonal
structure are occupied by D. Decomposition starts at 723 K. The sample is completely
decomposed into tetragonal ZrD2 and Zr 7Ni 10 at 873 K. — (SOERBY*, M. H.;
