ε-VOPO4: Electrochemical Synthesis and Enhanced Cathode Behavior. —
The title compound is synthesized from monoclinic and tetragonal H2VOPO4 by electrochemical deintercalation of the protons in both nonaqueous and aqueous electrolytes, as well as by heating H2VOPO4 in oxygen for 3 h at 500 °C. As revealed by powder XRD the compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n with Z = 4.
The samples are characterized as cathodes in nonaqueous lithium cells. They are able
to intercalate Li reversibly. Materials obtained from the tetragonal precursor exhibit
a reversible capacity exceeding 130 mAh/g at low cycling rates and 95 mAh/g even
at a current density of 2 mA/cm2. These materials are viable candidates for high rate
