Ag4V2O6F2: An Electrochemically Active and High Silver Density Phase. —
crystals of the title compound are synthesized from mixtures of Ag2O, V 2O5, and
32- 010 Single
aqueous HF (autoclave, 150 °C, 24 h). The samples are characterized by single crystal
XRD, IR spectroscopy, and electrochemical measurements. Ag4V2O6F2 crystallizes in
the monoclinic space group P21/n with Z = 4. The structure consists of sheets of chains
comprised of alternating V5+ centered tetrahedra and octahedra sharing corners. The
discharge curve exhibits two characteristic region, an upper plateau at 3.5 V, and a
lower sloped region around 2.3 V from reduction of the vanadium oxide fluoride framework. The material has a nominal capacity of 251 mAh/g, with 148 mAh/g above 3 V.
The upper discharge plateau at 3.5 V is nearly 300 mV over the silver reduction potential of the commercial primary lithium battery material, Ag2V4O11.The high capacity
makes Ag4V2O6F2 potentially useful for primary lithium batteries. — (SORENSEN,
