Synthesis and Characteristics of LiNi0.85 Co0.15O2 Cathode Materials by Particulate
Sol-Gel Method for Lithium Ion Batteries. — The title compound is synthesized by
a modified sol—gel process starting with stoichiometric aqueous solutions of LiOH,
Ni(OAc)2, and Co(OAc)2. The samples are characterized by powder XRD and SEM.
The first discharge capacity of the material is 196.4 mAh/g, and the 10th discharge capacity is 189.1 mAh/g at a current density of 18 mA/g between 3.0 and 4.3 V. The cycling reversibility is much better than that of samples obtained by solid state reactions.
