TEMPO-Derived Task-Specific Ionic Liquids for Oxidation of Alcohols. — The
metal-free, chemoselective oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols (I) to aldehydes and ketones (II) in high yields is achieved in the presence of a TEMPO derived
task-specific ionic liquid catalyst under ionic liquid-aqueous biphasic conditions. The
new ionic liquid-supported radical reveals catalytic properties similar to those of its
non-supported counterpart in terms of activity and selectivity. The reusable catalyst
offers additional advantages such as easy recovery, recycling and simplified work-up.
