Microwave Approach for the Synthesis of Rhabdophane-Type Lanthanide Ortho(Ln: La, Ce, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd and Tb) Nanorods under Solvothermal

Conditions. — LnPO4·nH2O (Ln: La, Ce, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Er; n = 0—0.6) nanowires/nanorods are synthesized in high yields (>95%) by microwave heating of aqueous solutions of Ln(NO3)3 and NH4H2PO4 in the pH range 1.8—2.2 using a simple domestic microwave oven. The samples are characterized by powder XRD, TEM, SAED,
IR, Raman, XPS, and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The length and width of the
resulting nanowires/nanorods are in the range 70—2200 nm and 6—130 nm, respectively. The new synthesis method is simple, fast, clean, efficient, economically cheap,
