Mixed Layered Oxide Phases NaxLi 1-xNiO2: A Detailed Description of Their Preparation and Structural and Magnetic Identification. — The title compounds
(0 ≤ x ≤ 0.3 and 0.8 ≤ x ≤ 1.0) are synthesized by solid state reactions of Na2O2, NiO,
and LiOH·H2O (680 °C, 24 h). The samples are characterized by powder XRD and
magnetic measurements. The Li-rich compounds crystallize in the α-NaFeO2-structure
(space group R3m), the most Na-rich compounds adopt the NaNiO2 structure (space
group C2/m), and around the composition Na0.7Li 0.3NiO2, a second R3m-type structure
is formed. When the Li substitution for Na is small, the antiferromagnetism and the
Jahn-Teller transition of NaNiO2 are only marginally affected, but when the nominal
Na0.8-composition is reached, the Jahn-Teller transition completely disappears and both
