The Ternary Rare-Earth Polychalcogenides LaSeTe2, CeSeTe2, PrSeTe2, NdSeTe2,
and SmSeTe2: Syntheses, Crystal Structures, Electronic Properties, and
Charge-Density-Wave-Transitions. — As revealed by single crystal XRD the high
temperature structure of the title compounds is an ordered ternary variant of the NdTe3
type (space group Cmcm, Z = 4). The low temperature structures are incommensurately modulated due to the occurrence of a charge density wave (superspace group Cmcm(00γ)s00). The square Te nets of the basic structure are distorted at lower temperatures to give zigzag chains of Te atoms. Resistance measurements show that the high
temperature phases exhibit a metal-like temperature dependence of the resistance
whereas the low temperature phases behave like semiconductors. — (FOKWA
