Crystal Growth and Magnetic Properties of BaCo2V2O8. — Large, dark green
crystals of the title compound are prepared by solid state reaction of BaCO3,
35- 012 single
CoC2O4·2H2O, and V2O5 (1:2:1 molar ratio, 930 °C, 60 h). The compound crystallizes
in the tetragonal space group I41/acd with Z = 8. As revealed by magnetic and heat capacity measurements, BaCo2V2O8 exhibits a transition from one-dimensional magnetic
short-range ordering to three-dimensional antiferromagnetic long-range ordering at
about 5 K. The compounds also shows a large magnetic anisotropy. — (HE, Z.; FU,
