Synthesis and Crystal Structure of the Nitridosilicates Ca5[Si 2N6] and
Ca7[NbSi2N9]. — Single crystals of the title compounds are prepared by solid state
reaction of Ca3N2, Ca2N, Si3N4, and, in the case of Ca 7[NbSi2N9], Nb powder at
1000—1060 °C. Ca5[Si 2N6] crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c with Z = 4.
The structure contains pairs of edge-sharing SiN4 tetrahedra forming isolated [Si2N6]10anions. Ca7[NbSi 2N9] crystallizes with a hitherto unknown structure type in the monoclinic space group P21/m (Z = 2). The structure contains isolated [NbSi2N9]14- ions
formed by edge-sharing of two SiN4 tetrahedra and one NbN5 pyramid. —
