COLLAR STUD TO BE SEWN
Hermann Lewy, Berlin-Charlottenburg, Germany
Application May 4, ‘1937, Serial No. 140,715
In Germany June 19, 1935
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a collar stud to be
Figs. 2-6, it is automatically securely held in this
sewed on the neck band of the shirt without im-
position, same as the stud head e, which can
peding washing and ironing.
either be folded down against the stem, as shown
The invention is substantially characterized in
5 that the stud stem and the stud head can be
folded down and are thus accommodated in full
‘ length within the rim of the base to be sewn on.

in Figs. 1-4 inclusive, or which can be folded into
operative position as shown in Figs. 5 and 6.
Fig. 3 shows the blade spring 1‘ for the folding
hinge c.
The stud‘head can be either rigid or resiliently
foldableand the stem is hingedly mounted on the
base somewhat oifset from the center of the same.
An‘ embodiment of the invention is illustrated
by way ‘of example in the accompanying drawing,
in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of the collar stud
attached to a shirt and showing the stem in folded
position. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the folded collar stud, detached. 'Fig. 3 isa view similar to Fig. 1
showing the stem in raised position. Fig. 4 is a
side elevation of the stud shown in Fig. 3, detached. Fig. 5 is a View similar to Fig. 3 but
showing the head of the stud in the position
ready for use.’ Fig. 6 is a side elevation of the stud
shown in Fig. 5, detached.
The base a is provided with holes, preferably
four holes, to facilitate the sewing of the base
on the neck band of the shirt. Base a is of disc
shape and the rim is slightly curved upwards.
On the base a a stem at is hingedly mounted by
means of a spring hinge c. The head e of the
stud is ?xed on the outer end of stem 01, also by
means of a spring hinge similar to that by which
Several modi?cations are possible without de
parting from the scope of the invention. The rim
of the base a can for instance be cut away for
accommodating the stem (1 and head 6.
In Fig. 2 the stem (1 and head e are shown slight
ly lifted out of the plane of the base a. This is done
merely to show more clearly the construction of
the collar stud. In reality stem d and head e, when
folded down, lie upon the base a so that they do
not project over the upwardly curved rim of the
base a. If the head e is rigidly ?xed on stem (1
it is preferably ball-shaped. If the base ails of
larger diameter the point at which the stem is
hingedly ?xed may be disposed closer to the
center of base a.
I claim:
A collar stud comprising in combination a base
with upwardly bent rim, a stem hingedly mounted
ecoentrically on said base, and a head hingedly
mounted on the outer end of said stern, said stem
when in folded positions lying below the plane of
the rim, and said base having holes therein when
same can be sewed upon the neck band of a
the stem is mounted on the base a, so that when
shirt.
the stem d is raised into the position shown in
